2015 Faraday Show

2015 Faraday Show: Physics in Movies (& Reality!)

Thank you for joining us in 2015 – We will see you in December 2016! Read on for videos and photos from our 2015 show.

Faraday ImageWHEN: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13TH 2015, 2:00-3:30 PM
WHERE: HEBB THEATRE, 2045 EAST MALL (UBC CAMPUS)

The Faraday Show is UBC’s annual science lecture, designed for children, presented by UBC Physics & Astronomy. This year we are joined by IsoSiM/TRIUMF – the theme is Physics in Movies (& Reality!). Can you propel yourself with a fire extinguisher like WALL.E? What would outer space explosions from Star Wars actually sound like? How many helium balloons does it take to lift a house into the air, like in Up? How difficult would it be for the fat lady in the painting to shatter that wine glass in Harry Potter? And, can we do some cool physics experiments based on the movie Frozen?

We will explore these questions, and more, through fun demos and hands-on activities. This show is for children of ALL AGES, and adults who are young at heart. Everybody is invited!

No registration required – the show is free of charge and open to the public, but bring non-perishable food items to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Hebb Theatre has limited capacity (375 people), so come early! For more information please contact the outreach program at: outreach@phas.ubc.ca / 604-822-3675.
